The team pit serves as a space where the team presents itself, interacts, and showcases its work to those passing by the booth. It's where visitors, other teams, and judges are received, so everything needs to be organized, visually appealing, and easy to understand. Typically, the team is in the pit with part of the robot, materials, and their portfolio, prepared to explain the project clearly and quickly. Conversations are shorter than a formal interview, so an objective explanation of the robot, the technical choices, and what the team learned is crucial. It's extremely important that everyone on the team knows how to talk about the project, that they keep the environment tidy, and that they convey a good impression through friendliness and professionalism. The pit is essentially a "showcase" for the team.
To prepare your team for interviews with the judges, it's necessary to focus on three points: content, communication, and practice. First, everyone needs to be able to clearly explain what was done with the robot or project, not by reciting a script, but by understanding the subject matter. Then, practice answering common questions such as challenges, choices, techniques, and how the team works together. Practicing speaking techniques is also very helpful: making eye contact, being polite, sharing speaking time among everyone, and showing confidence. Finally, conduct mock interviews, with someone acting as a judge, asking difficult and unexpected questions. This way, the team arrives at the tournament more confident, natural, and prepared.
